- Hire a wedding planner – yes we are biased about this tip however we are passionate about weddings and want to help couples have a blissful start to Happily Ever After. We do this every day all day, it is what we eat, live and breath. Take advantage of our skill sets and experience so you don’t have to stress yourself out. Even if you don’t end up hiring a full wedding planner, a ‘day of’ is a great budget friendly option. Wedding planners are here to help you create your vision, not take over and convince you to have a wedding that you are not in love with.
2. Decide what is most important about the wedding – When planning a wedding there are a lot of different aspects that go into the one day. We suggest creating a list of all the vendors you need to secure along with other aspects such as, the reception, ceremony, guests and atmosphere. Have a discussion with your partner and list them from most important to least. That way you both have an understanding of what’s important and then you can set the budget accordingly. If you both feel the reception and party aspect of the wedding is a top priority then the venue, bar and DJ will need to be decided accordingly. If you pick a venue that the last call is at 11:00 pm because you have to be out by 1:00 am that is cutting the party short. However if the food is most important then finding a catering that you both LOVE is something you may want to search more for. You don’t want to have to settle for a catering that is just alright because you wanted too long to book.
3.Set a theme/atmosphere – What feel do you want for your wedding? Does a beach wedding fit your personality, a country wedding in a barn, a fancy downtown wedding with chandeliers, a casual backyard wedding fit your style? What atmosphere do you want to have on your special day? When you understand this it will make choosing other vendors and decor much simpler because you have the end goal in mind.
4. Book early – What we mentioned about finding the perfect caterer? That also links into the tip of booking early. You never want to have to settle for a vendor that you are not pleased with just because they were the only option. If you are engaged for 3 years or 3 months, after picking a date start looking around. You may have to wait a year or more to have an available date at your perfect venue. Which also ties back into what you value most? Maybe you have the perfect photographer that you want to ensure is able to shoot your wedding, picking a date around them may be something to consider.
5. Create a budget – this should be pretty simple. You need an understanding how much the wedding is going to cost and where the money is going. You can have a beautiful wedding for $3,000.00 or $30,000.00 It all depends on your goals and vision for the wedding day. No matter how much you spend, be sure you don’t forget aspects, even if they are small. The little things can add up and you don’t want a surprise bill after everything is said and done. There are plenty of budget templates online, or ask your wedding planner!
6. Support local – this is something we are passionate about. Finding local wedding vendors is a great way to help support your community. There are a lot of options for wedding vendors, we suggest starting to look close to home. Plus when the vendors are near you it will be easier to meet up for meetings, tastings ext.
7. Make it personal – I am sure you all have gone on Pinterest at some point and looked at wedding ideas. We do love Pinterest (check out our boards), that being said please keep in mind that this is your wedding. Use Pinterest for inspirations and ideas, we suggest that you try to add in personal touches. Looking back at your wedding photos you want to be able to tell that they are YOUR photos and not just another stock image from Pinterest. Your guests are there because of you, they will love to see your personality. Adding photos, inside jokes, Mr. and Mrs. drinks or creative guest books are easy ways to create a more personal wedding day.
8. Ask questions – don’t be worried to ask a million questions. This is your day and the last thing you want is an unpleasant surprise. This is another great reason to hire a wedding planner, we know what questions need to be asked so the day goes off without a hitch. No question is too small or too silly. We understand that this is important to you and you want to feel secure in all your choices.
9. Dream big – this it the day almost every little girl has been dreaming about since they were 4 years old. Every person wants their perfect wedding, no matter how big or small. Remember this is your day and you can dream as big as you want.
10. Make the most of every moment – If you take away anything from this blog remember this!
