When somebody says black tie I am sure most of us go ‘huh’? That is not surprising since there are MANY different levels of black tie attire. This gives you an overview… that being said we will focus on a few of the more popular wedding attire.
What to Wear for a casual wedding:
This is the perfect opportunity to try something new! Casual weddings are the time to wear that trendy new suit, whether that is in blue, green, purple or red! If you are not that bold, try a pattern shirt under the jacket. We also love when guys wear vests for a put together yet laid back style. This is the only time that a nice pair of jeans may be worn to a wedding. Just remember to always put your best foot forward.
Suit – stay away from black
Dress shirt – add a pattern or a pop of color
Necktie – optional
Pocket Square – an added touch of class and style
Brown suede shoes – or another shade that is not solid black
Suede belt – optional but completes the look
What to wearing for a cocktail dress code:
This is the most common dress code for a wedding. We suggest a navy, grey however if you have a suit in another dark tone that would be suitable. Don’t forget the tie and pocket square! A shinny pair of shoes to polish off the look is a must!
Navy or blue suit – you can also try for a trendy color like maroon, emerald or grey.
Solid color dress shirt – keep it simple and classy
Necktie or bow tie – try adding a pattern to freshen up the look
Tie clip – this is optional but adds some elegance
Cuff-links – have you seen the unique cuff-links they have online these days?!
Pocket square – not needed but highly suggested
Black or brown leather shoes – gotta dance the night away
Black tie optional dress code:
Keep it classy! This is a formal dress code for a wedding, normally weddings in a church or another formal venue calls for a black tie attire. In this case stick to a sharp black suit with a white shirt and black tie or bow-tie. To add a personal style you can add a black pattern on the vest or pocket square. This is the perfect opportunity to feel like James Bond.
Black or midnight blue tuxedo – keep it simple
Black and white satin bow tie or necktie – you can add a black on black pattern
White tuxedo shirt or dress shirt – this is an acceptable time to wear white to a wedding
Cuff-links – we are a fan of silver or black
Pocket square – optional but suggested
Black patent leather shoes – keep it classy
Now that we got the basics covered, its time for you men to get shopping! Weddings are the perfect opportunity to pull out all the stops. Don’t forget to freshen up with a haircut so you don’t look like you forget what day the wedding was.
